Yesterday my publisher, Fremantle Press, sent me the typeset draft of The River Mouth. If you have read this year’s wonderful The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams, or if you are generally awesome, you’ll know that typesetting is the process of arranging words and letters on a page so the text looks the way it will in the published book, newspaper, or magazine. Looking at the typeset draft of The River Mouth feels a bit like looking at the ultrasound photos of my children for the first time – utterly thrilling to me, possibly not to anyone else, and dead-set dull (I imagine) to anyone who has published more than one book. Expect some dreadfully boring and increasing hysterical blogs over the next ten months as publication day approaches.
